more pictures!

This is actually a fire station. I wish all of our public facilities had the cartoon themes going:

Bring me tribute or I will crush Taipei!

This is the golden buddha where I got kidnapped a few posts back:

This is a bathroom sign, using the well-known international symbols for 'woman' and 'man':

Random street scene - this one's a little dark, but you can see some greenery:

Ken's fire station, a mile from our house, has some almost cartoonish art work outside the main entrance, cartoon flames, etc. Remind me to take you down there sometime when you are here visiting. I had googled your laughing Buddha, and I found his picture. I enjoyed the pictures. Please have someone take one of you to post. Jane

I like the idea of fire departments having sponsors. All the bunker gear would have to reflect the theme of the principal advertiser. Disney themes would be good. I can see the 7 dwarfs hanging onto the ladder truck as it pulls out on a call. I wouldn't want to be stationed at the Lion King's precinct. Those animal costumes might be a tad uncomfortable. And unfortunately, I'm afraid there are those who would intentionally set fires just to watch the Ringling Bros. clown squad swing into action.

It's nice to see the taiwanese fire service doesn't take itself so very seriously.

The pig god is clearly meant as a tribute to the Porky's movie franchise. The chinese definitely like going with "scary" as a central theme in their statuary. Even the buddha is quite clearly laughing at a joke I don't quite get, but probably should if I hope to have any chance of coming back above the phyla arthropoda.

The restroom signs are a hoot. I can see an elegant coffee table picture book collection of all the different way this is depicted from around the world.

Keep taking pictures!

susan - The pictures of the laughing buddha are awesome! I particularly liked how you took one picture where he is partially covered, so we can kind of see the perspective of how you start seeing him little by little, and then whamo, big laughing, golden buddha boy!!
